PostSubject: SQUARES - A quick GM project   SQUARES - A quick GM project Empty05/09/12, 09:07 am

So this is a little project I worked on for six months. I've worked quite hard on it, but now I just want to forget about it and move on to my next project, hopefully not in Game Maker.

Most of everything is complete. It's the first build of the game at the moment, so yeah, glitches everywhere. All the levels are done, and the game is complete able. Make sure to save every now and then, so that just in case you find a game-breaking glitch, you can just load. It's not really a hassle, as the save/load feature is based on savestates.

I know it's not the best game ever, but it's something I wanted to do to that I could learn the very basics of programming in GML before moving onto trying to learn C.

Some reasons for this taking six months are, the last level, trying to fix the large amount of glitches, and general laziness.

I hope you guys like what I've done, if not, rage at the fact the game is kinda hard xD OK, it's a sort-of guessing game, but it's one of those games than can be completed in about 20 minutes if you've completed it before.

There are also five secrets hidden throughout all the levels (even one for the Shenmue fans)!

The story is nothing much, but if you think about it and make stuff up in your head like I did then I guess it can be sorta not touching.

Some screenshots:

Level 5. (Hold 5 for a surprise!)

tl;dr a quick game I wanted to make to learn the very basics of coding (GML) before jumping straight into learning C.

Note: SQUARES will create a file called 'squares.savefile' for the use of saving game data.

Also, people note down and post any glitches you may find here.

Final note: Some beta testers have reported that a certain terrible anti-virus program known as "Norton" is calling the game a virus. I assure you that I would never include viruses in any of my games, nor would Game Maker. Norton just seems to hate Game Maker. There are articles all over the internet on this subject. So make of that what you will.

I'm hoping to start developing more games, or modding, and creating my own levels for Sonic Generations when I get my new PC next March. I swear this PC can't run a thing.

Haha yeah. I made the game specifically to be hard if you don't know what you're doing. Remember to stick to the wall on the top right of the screen before you hit the bottom when you fall in.
