So I'm designing characters for a wrestling/fighting game using the foundation of TBC. In the process of creating characters I have a lot of ideas for great female characters and I'd like to make the number of male and female combatants almost equal but here in America, and many parts of the world people hold a belief that women should not be struck by men. To me that is a fundamentally sexist idea, women can be powerful and not only hold their own but kick a man's ass.
Personally I'd love to show some strong empowered women that aren't oversexualized (hello every woman in Mortal Kombat) but I'm not sure that people can take it. What do you think?

I say you can never please everyone. Some people will complain not matter what. Make the game you want to make. You are damned by some if you do and damned by some if you don't.
I see no reason not to add them.

Well, the precedent has already been set as there are women fighters in almost every fighting game so I'm not sure people would be upset by them being struck by men as long as they're strong and able to fight. But yeah I say go for it.

If you add them don't make the mistake of making them slow. Seen it before.

Probably got weighed down with their boobs being made so massive by the developers to 'appeal to an older audience'.
You can design some ideas for female characters. Just do it right and not over the top.

The reason I'm mostly worried is because I'm not a corporation. You don't just say a company name when referring to who made my game, its me straight up. Theres nothing for me to hide behind, even if the attacks on me are unwarranted. People could flip about violence against women.
Reaver, Minerva and Nina are obviously these strong crazy personalities with a gimmick because they're wrestlers but I created them to be wrestlers that are female. They're fairly real, they aren't strippers with big boobs, they don't do splits, and they don't even have revealing costumes. My fear is that because of that they won't just be seen as avatars. Thats the thing about Chun Li or Vanessa. most fighting games don't have a story in the same way this one does. Knowing who Reaver is, will help you directly in the game. Understanding who she is affects your performance and there isn't any other fighting game that does that so I'm worried that because people empathize with her they might apply the sexist belief that men should not hit women.
I'm not trying to act high and mighty or say my game is teh best, just saying that its not very common for females that are well developed in a narrative to be violent or have violence forced on them. shit people thought giving Samus a personality was sexist.

I say do it. If they are strong and not over sexualized I see no problem.
